Shubin-Weil Master Clinician/Teacher: Excellence In Bedside Teaching Award recognizes an SCCM member who is a role model in both the teaching and ethical practice of critical care. The nominee must have substantially furthered the expert and appropriate use of life support interventions. The recipient receives $500 and a medallion.
Deadline and Submission
One nomination letter describing how the nominee meets the criteria is required.
After the nomination letter is submitted, the nominee will be asked to submit a list of his/her fellows. SCCM staff will request comments and examples of nominees' fulfillment of criteria from fellows.
The award is meant to honor someone who is a role model of excellence in both the teaching and ethical practice of critical care. The nominee should be someone who is not nationally or internationally well-known or whose name is not recognized by his/her research efforts. The nominee must also:
- Be an SCCM section member
- Have a combination of attributes which make him/her a role model of excellence in both the teaching and ethical practice of critical care
- Have direct responsibility for patients
- Be recognized as an outstanding clinician/teacher who by example and leadership has substantially furthered the expert and appropriate use of life-support interventions
Although innovative and substantive contributions to clinical or basic research pertinent to critical care may be cited as additional considerations, this is not intended to be a primary or major criteria for selection.
Elected Council and Board of Regents members are not eligible for the award during their tenure.

The recipient will be notified of his or her selection by the SCCM President.
